An incredible talent pool descends on Sunset Beach this year, as the 2007 Xcel Pro Presented by No Fear seed list is complete.
Competitors from Hawaii and around the world are gearing up for the 4-Star WQS event, set to kick off the North Shore's famed winter season October 27 through November 10.
Battling for valuable ratings points and a $75,000 total purse, fans can follow all the action as this year's contest finds its home on the Web today, with the official Web site up and running at http://xcelpro.xcelwetsuits.com.
Top seed Jordy Smith, currently No. 1 atop the Men's WQS ratings, looks to continue his banner year here in Hawaii. Expect the young South African Smith to find heavy competition from No. 3 Men's WQS Tiago Pires, along with 2006 Xcel Pro winner Evan Valiere of Kauai.
All four 2006 finalists - Valiere, Gavin Beschen, Michel Bourez, and Makua Rothman - return to compete in 2007.
Be sure to check out the official Web site http://xcelpro.xcelwetsuits.com, the portal to this year's live online Webcast, set to stream throughout all days of competition. Webcast viewers will be treated to up-close water footage from Surfing Live's state-of-the-art water camera technology, plus beachside interviews and glimpses behind the scenes at Sunset.
During the waiting period, the contest Web site "Live Feed" will stay on top of conditions reports and whether or not the contest is a go for the day. The site also hosts photos and the latest updates posted throughout each day of competition.
"The Web site, and our Webcast, are so important to this event," notes Ed D'Ascoli, Xcel president. "Our goal is to bring every minute of the Xcel Pro to our viewers who might not have made it to the beach that day. The high-tech, accessible Webcast is going to do just that."
Surf News Network will also support the event as official contest hotline. For more, please visit the contest Web site at http://xcelpro.xcelwetsuits.com.
