SUNSET BEACH, HAWAII - NOVEMBER 6, 2006 -Today marks the final day of competition at the 2006 Xcel Pro Presented by No Fear. As forecast by Surfline.com, the WNW swell arrived late last night at dark to Sunset Beach. Surf is peaking this morning, with wave faces in the 8 to 12 foot range.
The action starts at 8:00 AM HST when Heat 13 of Round 3 hits the water, and will conclude with the final heat later in the afternoon, paddling out at about 3:30 PM HST, when this year's Xcel Pro champion will be decided.
Winds are light and offshore, and are forecast to turn light east trades, making for great conditions. With a low tide at about 10:00 AM HST, an incoming tide to Sunset Beach will give a good push to the waves towards mid-day.
SurfingLive is broadcasting a live Webcast each day of competition using state-of-the-art water cam technology. The Webcast will be available at the official 2006 Xcel Pro Web site, http://xcelpro.xcelwetsuits.com, for those not on the beach at Sunset.
The official waiting period for this year's Xcel Pro Presented by No Fear began Friday, October 27 and would have continued through November 10. With no other swells forecast except a smaller NNE swell on November 9 (not a good direction for Sunset Beach), contest officials have decided that for the remainder of the waiting period, today is the best day to run final heats.
